Yoga for Pregnancy

with Joie Mucha

Throughout Pregnancy & Childbirth

When you are pregnant, your body is providing the first environment for your growing child, in which all of the essential human functions are developing.

Allowing time and space for a yoga practice is an important step in nurturing yourself and providing your child with a healthy, well-balanced environment. It can be surprising how quickly pregnancy can affect your physical and emotional body, however staying active, encouraging relaxation, strength and flexibility can ease the body back into a balanced state. In each session of this workshop, we will be exploring the breath and relaxation techniques, posture and the natural curves of the spine, tension in the neck and shoulders, and of course, opening and releasing the pelvis/hips in preparation for birth. Many yoga poses for pregnancy help to open and release the pelvis, preparing the body for similar positions experienced during childbirth. Additionally, we will be work on finding alignment in standing and seated postures to strengthen and nurture the spine.

We will touch upon all of these aspects in each session and build on that knowledge in subsequent sessions over the three weeks.

Yoga experience in required.

Joie Mucha

Joie has studied various styles including Hatha, Anusara, Ashtanga, Iyengar, Prenatal, and Yoga for Children. She draws on her knowledge from these traditions to create a serene environment in which to practice yoga as a moving meditation. Read Joie's full bio here.
