Malik Turley After having 2 children and while pregnant with her third, Malik had the opportunity to attend a friend during labor. That experience inspired her to become a birth doula. Gradually she added other parenting-focused services, enabling her to find and live her passion – helping parents and children. Malik is a DONA trained doula, a founding member of the Northeastern Illinois Doulas Association, a CAPPA trained Childbirth Educator, and a La Leche League trained peer-counselor. Working with moms in labor and watching their natural movements led Malik to explore belly-dancing as a way to enhance her doula practice and fell in love with the art-form. She has been dancing on her own and with clients ever since, using a variety of styles to help women find the thrill of learning about their bodies through movement. Since Malik was bitten by the knitting bug she always has at least 3 projects going! In her yarn baby days she outfitted her husband and 3 children in scarves and hats. Now she works on lace knitting and other projects with more involved shapes, as well as designing her own patterns. Teaching others how to knit has always been a favorite part of the craft for her, and she’s thrilled to help others become yarn babies! Workshops Malik teaches at Bloom: Sign with Your Baby, Infant CPR, Breastfeeding Basics, Yarn Baby, Intro to Belly Dancing Back to Bloom Community page |
