FAQs

What makes Bloom's program different?

  • Specialty modules make you a more skillful and versatile teacher

  • Hybrid program offers you the best of virtual & in-person learning

  • Limit on class size allows for greater individualized feedback (max of 20 trainees)

  • Yoga tradition presented in an accessible way so you can share it with others

  • Not a 'cookie-cutter' approach to teaching - we teach you to teach like you!

Our teacher training program combines Bloom’s signature down-to-earth, unintimidating approach to yoga with a focus on learning to safely teach the basics to beginners and Level 1-2 students. While the program will include opportunities for trainees to deepen their own understanding of more challenging poses, the primary focus will be in gaining a solid understanding of the rich tradition of yoga and learning to share that information in an accessible way with students of a variety of levels of experience. Trainees will learn techniques for how to instruct students in a pose, and will gain insights into how to create thoughtful sequences and themes for their classes. Emphasis will be placed on the language of teaching, and trainees will receive detailed feedback and suggestions for how to develop and clarify their teaching voice.

Is the program taught in a particular style?

Above all else, our program will teach you to be a safe and skillful teacher (of yourself and others!). Rather than subscribing to one particular style, our training draws from various respected traditions to provide a balanced and individualized approach to yoga. With a strong emphasis on understanding healthy alignment and supportive use of props, the program draws on Bloom’s view of yoga as a lifelong practice, and one that can and should be modified to provide the experience of yoga to a broader audience. In addition to learning to skillfully teach a well-rounded yoga practice to beginners and intermediate students, specialty topics include: Trauma Sensitive Yoga, Gentle Yoga, Restorative Yoga, Skillful use of Props and Modifications, How to Modify for Pregnant Students, Yoga for the Workplace, and more.

Must I be an 'advanced' practioner to apply?

The best indicator of your readiness for the Teacher Training Program is consistency of practice. We suggest that applicants have at least 1-2 years of dedicated yoga practice prior to entering the program. This base of experience enables you to delve into the subtleties of the poses in your own practice, and learn to communicate the depth of the poses to students. You do not need to be able to do the most challenging poses or variations in order to become a teacher. Your commitment and attitude are more important than the number of crazy poses you can pretzel your way into!

What if I'm not sure that I want to teach?

Many Teacher Training students apply for a program with no intention to teach. While there will be significant time and focus spent on honing teaching skills and putting them into practice, the training is also a wonderful way to deepen and broaden your own understanding yoga. It’s often said that the best way to deepen your knowledge of a subject it to teach someone else. Even if you have no intention of teaching, the process of learning to share the benefits of yoga will inevitably enrich your own experience of the practice. This program is suitable for practitioners who are looking to invest time in exploring all things yoga: asana, pranayama, meditation, philosophy, anatomy & physiology, etc.

What can I expect after graduation?

The road students take upon completion of the program is varied. Some seek out teaching and subbing opportunities, others may decide to continue to focus on their personal practice before delving into teaching. It is important to understand that the process of becoming a part-time or full-time yoga teacher takes time, and completion of a teacher training program does not necessarily translate into instant studio teaching jobs. With persistence and commitment to their practice, new teachers can work to find opportunities to gain classroom experience and hone their skills. Regardless of whether or not graduates pursue teaching, they will experience greater depth and understanding in their personal practice.
